Zebby has competed at the Royal International in 2019 in both Amateur and open small hunter classes, he qualified for both classes again this year, that qualification has now been carried forward to 2021. He did his first BD show just before lockdown gaining his first points. He is excellent to clip shoe, travel and pull his tail, but needs twitching for his mane. He is excellent on farm rides and happy to jump any jumps on them

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

I would like Zebby to have a home where he can enjoy hacking with a little dressage and showing. I would not want him to be with someone that wanted to school a lot and compete every weekend. He would be also suited to someone who due to other commitments can't ride everyday. If he wasn't ridden for a month you could get straight back on and take him for a hack and he would be the same as if he had been ridden everyday.

Relevant health or lameness issues

Went lame as a 5 year old, extensive investigations and treated for query navicular, then inflamed laminii ( not laminitis) then changes is his Pedal bone. Remained lame, as a last resort given a year off, came sound and has remained sound since. At 7 he had episodes of not being able to lift his head from the ground, it was found that his neck vertebrae were pinching his spinal cord treated by Rainbow Equine Hospital and has no further episodes have occurred. Rare form of Vasculitis this year, see below

Veterinary examinations or treatment given in the past 12 months

Earlier this year Zeb developed a rare form of Vasculitis on outside of his offside back leg. Treated by my own vets under the guidance of Professor Knottenbelt. Main part of treatment consisted in Zeb living a nocturnal life for a few months, not allowed to have daylight on any part of his body even for a minute. Gradually over the last mouth his exposure to daylight has been increased and going forward the only thing to avoid is being out on a bright sunny day if there is snow on the ground

Please describe your horses behaviour in traffic

I would consider Zeb to be very good in traffic. Excellent with cars, vans, push bikes, motorbikes, small lorries. I would get any large lorries, coaches, tractors with trailers to slow down but i think that's more me having a problem that Zeb

Please describe your horses behaviour when hacking out alone and in company

Super to hack alone or with one/two other horses. In a large group on open land he gets very excited. In a large group on roads nd tracks he would be fine as long as he could be in front. Super at opening gates and brave at passing the unusual. If you needed to get off for any reason you could tie him to a tree or fence and then when you wanted to get back on pull him into position after you had clambered up a gate or whatever to get back on and he would stand like a rock until you were on.

Details of any individual behavioural traits which may influence the type of person best suited to take on the horse

Zeb needs a confident and experienced person around him. He likes to constantly push boundaries and would take advantage of someone who was nervous or inexperienced but once he knows you are not intimidated he is a pussy cat..

Details of the activities that the horse must not participate in due to previous injury

Due to his past lameness and neck issues I do not jump Zebby much. I also would not intensively school him more than once a week

Details of any problems when being ridden

Can buck usually after the first time he jumps something or warming up in a collecting ring if something canters past him. Hasn't bucked on a hack for years

Horse vaccinated annually for flu and tetanus

Yes

Need to be stabled at night?

Yes, but only in winter

Need to be put on restricted grazing to limit weight gain?

No
