Bea is a sweet, gentle horse who enjoys being around people. We bought her because a vet found she was partially sighted in one eye due to an old injury and we wanted to ensure she could still have a good life. Since then she has done hacking, schooling, pleasure rides, showjumping and cross country. However we recently learned that the eye problem is due to a loose lens which, although it hasn't caused her any problems to date, could cause discomfort if she jumps so any loaner must not jump her

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

We are looking for a non-jumping home where Bea will get lots of love. She is a steady ride - forward when you like her to be, but easy to hold back. She can be clumsy and see things late on her left side due to her eye injury so any rider must be competent and aware of this. For that reason she is not suitable for young children although they can fuss her as much as they like! She loves that!

  • Details of the tack used to ride the horse

She has a regular cavesson bridle with a 3-ring gag bit currently on the second ring, however she has been ridden in a snaffle before. No martingale necessary

Relevant health or lameness issues

Bea has an old injury to her left eye which predates our ownership of her. We knew she was partially sighted when we bought her but found out in August this year that it was due to a loose lens. This has mot caused Bea any problems to date but there is a possibility of inflammation in the future and we have been advised not to jump her. Removal of the eye is an option, either now or later on, and if that was done she should be able to to return to all activities, including jumping.

Veterinary examinations or treatment given in the past 12 months

July 19 - Choke episode - cleared by the vet and all fine. Aug 19 - Vetting arranged by potential buyer: Identified the loose lens in the eye so advised no jumping. Tiny currant sized lump on neck - has always been there. Unable to assess soundness as Bea wouldn't trot in hand.

Please describe your horses behaviour in traffic

She isn't spooky at all and doesn't look at anything, whether on her own or in company.

Please describe your horses behaviour when hacking out alone and in company

Bea is happy going out alone or in company. She is froward going but easy to stop. She can be clumsy so the rider would have to look out for that.

Details of any individual behavioural traits which may influence the type of person best suited to take on the horse

Bea can be clumsy probably due to her partial sight in one eye so not suitable for beginners. She is very sweet and loves cuddles but she can occasionally kick out at other horses. She is fine sharing a field and there have been no problems between her and her field mates.

Details of the activities that the horse must not participate in due to previous injury
