Woody is the most kindest gentleman. He will hack out on his own and is 100% traffic proof, will even pass combine harvesters! I have owned him for nearly 11 years and has never reared or bucked, or bolted. I have done a lot of schooling with him and would easily compete at dressage. He can also jump is very forward and brave. However, he is looking for a quieter life and would be happy doing some local shows. He loads very easily and travels well.

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

Woody is a TB so is forward going he can get a little excited on rare occasions so will need a confident rider. He enjoys his work and would love to do more. He will live out in summer but needs to be stabled at night in the winter. Daily turnout would be beneficial to him. I would like him to go to an adult home with someone who would like to hack and do a bit more with him than I have time.

Relevant health or lameness issues

Woody does crib, he doesn’t wear a collar either as he manages this well and wouldn’t want to stress him by wearing one. It doesn’t affect his weight and he has not had colic. He is fit and active, recently has physio and doesn’t have arthritis or any lameness and is very well for his age. He has been pin fired on his front legs but this has never affected him and it’s not visible with him being grey.

Veterinary examinations or treatment given in the past 12 months

Woody had an allergic reaction to something and had hives on his body. After steroid injection and antibiotics he was recovered within a few days.

Please describe your horses behaviour in traffic

Brilliant..this horse will pass anything. He may look at things but always go forward and the traffic is never an issue. He used to be on a farm and he would often walk up to the combine harvester while it was running!!

Please describe your horses behaviour when hacking out alone and in company

He is forward doesn’t nap, always takes the lead. He may look at stuff on occasions but a confident sensible rider would find no issues. He is the best horse for hacking I’ve had. I’ve never had to carry a whip with him either he is very obliging bless him. I have never fallen off this horse in the 11 years I've had him. Woody is the most genuine horse I've ridden and always tries for you.

Details of any individual behavioural traits which may influence the type of person best suited to take on the horse

He can get a bit excited very rarely these days. For instance on a hack we encountered over a thousand runners on a country lane with people shouting encouragement he jogged and hotted up but he doesn’t try and run off or anything else you just need to stay calm so would suit someone sensible. Again he will canter out with others but I have never raced him about so he doesn’t learn any bad habits.

Details of the activities that the horse must not participate in due to previous injury

No, Woody is fit and healthy. His age may need to be taken into account and sensible work should be given

Details of any problems when being ridden

Never bucked or reared, doesn’t nap either. Can get a little excited on rare occasions. This isn't a horse you can beat up when he gets tense, he will need a calm rider who is happy to sit and not hang on his mouth if he jogs around a bit.

Horse vaccinated annually for flu and tetanus

Need to be stabled at night?
