Fable is a kind, affectionate mare who is still young and deserves the opportunity to build a good relationship with someone who can help her realise her potential and enable her to have a busier, more rewarding lifestyle. She is not mare-ish in any way and loves fuss and human company. She is very good natured and submissive with other horses. She is used to dogs, cats, sheep, cattle, chickens etc. She is always gentle towards people and animals. She is easy to catch, shoe etc. and travels well.

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

Fable takes a long time to settle anywhere new and needs to be allowed time to relax and become more confident in a different environment. If only kept with a single horse she gets very attached and can be insecure and anxious if separated. Because of this, I believe that she would be happiest in a yard where there are more horses and she can be turned out in a group. I think she would benefit from having a routine and having the chance to get to know and trust one particular person.

  • Details of the tack used to ride the horse

Fable has been ridden in a snaffle and a general purpose saddle. She does not have any tack of her own at the moment.

Relevant health or lameness issues

Fable has had numerous tests and examinations in the past in an attempt to ascertain any physical issues that may contribute to her ridden behaviour. She has never been diagnosed with a problem and shows no sign of discomfort or lameness. She does need to be on restricted grazing as she is a very good doer and has had a mild bout of laminitis in the past.

Please describe your horses behaviour in traffic

No issues known. Fable is very used to tractors and farm machinery and doesn't appear to be frightened of vehicles, noises or various activities going on around her. However,to my knowledge she has not experienced heavy traffic or busy roads whilst being ridden.

Please describe your horses behaviour when hacking out alone and in company

Fable has not been hacked out alone in the time that we have had her. She can be anxious on her own and may panic until she is sure of her surroundings/rider. I think that in time she would overcome these fears.

Details of any individual behavioural traits which may influence the type of person best suited to take on the horse

Fable needs a very competent, kind rider. She has not been ridden for a couple of years and needs to be brought back into work slowly and carefully. She lunges well and is responsive and eager to please. I think that she becomes anxious if she does not understand what is being asked of her. I feel she would benefit greatly from going right back to square one with her ridden work.

Explanation whether this horse is simply a good doer or whether he is prone to laminitis

A very good doer and susceptible to laminitis if not managed, this would probably not be a problem once in regular work.

Details of any problems when being ridden

Fable can be unpredictable when ridden, she can buck or rear when anxious. She is better once she has settled and got to know her rider but needs a very confident and capable rider who can stay calm and reassure her. I believe that her issues can be worked through by the right person.
