Dessi is a very handsome horse, with an amazing carriage. He covers the ground well and has turned his hoof to most things we've asked of him. He has lots of character and will excel at Eventing, SJ dressage and perhaps even the ROR showing classes. Dessi needs a confident light rider to give him routine and get him to a level where he can go out and compete. He travels well on horsebox and trailer. Great to shoe and clip with no sedation needed.

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

A young or older person who has preferably worked with ex-racehorses before. somebody who wants to have fun taking him up the ranks. He will be fabulous at dressage and has never stopped at any show jumps yet considering he had never seen any before. He learns quickly and is very willing and loves his work. He is a big horse, but very light in your hands with great carriage. so will need a confident rider to ride him. plenty of good grass turnout and a good routine. must be stabled in winter and cold nights

  • Details of the tack used to ride the horse

Snaffle ride, martingale, GP saddle. Has worn pelham for his one and only show and went nicely in that. flash for jumping and canter work on hacks.

Relevant health or lameness issues

Dessi had a wind op when in training with us, which helped his racing. He can suffer from mud fever on his white hind sock and must wear sun block on his nose in the summer. we've had no other issues with Dessi. He was a great racehorse for us who became part of the family.

Veterinary examinations or treatment given in the past 12 months

Please describe your horses behaviour in traffic

Dessi is good in traffic when hacking in company. He is better with traffic coming behind him, but can spin if cars come fast towards him. He needs a confident rider to give him confidence.

Please describe your horses behaviour when hacking out alone and in company

Dessi is great hacking in company whether a group of horses or just a small pony. He can nap leaving the yard if hacking alone, so have always taken a friend on a bike. If in a small quite yard, he may find it easier to leave his friends!

Details of any individual behavioural traits which may influence the type of person best suited to take on the horse

Dessi is a big horse, who is very well behaved, but is a sports horse, therefore not suitable for a novice. We would love a confident light weight rider who sees the potential we do! He has amazing self carriage and moves nicely so will excel at dressage and even eventing with a lovely round jump. He is eligible for ROR and has been out to a horse show and Anvil sj where he behaved impeccably well.

Details of the activities that the horse must not participate in due to previous injury

none due to injury, but must not hunt. We tried this and it didn't suit him at all.

Explanation whether this horse is simply a good doer or whether he is prone to laminitis

The more grass the better. poor doer.

Details of any problems when being ridden

Dessi can nap if leaving the yard alone. He has been known to spin if fast traffic approached him. never reared, only ever bucked when really fit in racing on the very odd occasion.
