  • This horse IS an ex-racehorse and IS eligible for Retraining of Racehorses (ROR) classes
Frenchy is a lovely big happy horse. His forte is brisk hacking - he is super on the roads and willing and forward going. He has had some training in dressage and could compete unaffiliated prelim with the right rider. (he's been placed in RoR dressage and combined training) he also jumps - though is better xc than show jumping but he's not too old to learn new tricks. Frenchy has had a hard life in the racing world and may not stand up to high level training but he is a good fun horse for a good rider.

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

Looking for a tall adult sharer who is a good confident but quiet rider. Frenchy is a BIG ex race horse - but he is also a darling who is happy in his work. Rider must be balanced at all paces he is certainly not a novice ride. But he has no serious vices either and my husband (his owner) has never had any trouble with him and enjoys his lively nature. He is easy to do - I'm 5'2'' and though I don't care to ride him he is easy for me to handle on the floor inc clipping, shoeing, loading etc

  • Details of the tack used to ride the horse

we have a GP saddle, prolite back pad, snaffle bridle (occasional with cherry roller for exciting stuff), cavasson noseband with nose net in the summer

Relevant health or lameness issues

Frenchy has fired tendons from racing - but has never been unsound (aside from the odd hoof abscess over the years) - he also has asymmetry in his hips - but again it does not seem to affect him. whe we had him vetted the vet said he's probably had a fall racing but that he was so used to being that way it didn't affect him much. My Husband is a large man and frenchy has stayed sound the 5ish years we have had him even doing quite long fast rides at times. His tendons and hips are excluded

Veterinary examinations or treatment given in the past 12 months

None aside from teeth rasping

Please describe your horses behaviour in traffic

Frenchy is very good in traffic - he has seen lorries and tractors and all sorts and will happily hack down the main road

Please describe your horses behaviour when hacking out alone and in company

Frenchy Hacks alone and in company and does fun rides too. You'd need to be a decent rider to canter behind - but he will and often does. He is a typical ex racer and likes to run but he does not buck, rear, or spook.

Details of any individual behavioural traits which may influence the type of person best suited to take on the horse

he is large, strong and likes a canter. He won't run off out of nowhere but he can get jolly. he would make a nervous rider nervous and if you get tense he gets tenser. But I've seen my husband many times just sit there with the reins in one hand and canter along side by side with me. So he is no loony either.

Details of the activities that the horse must not participate in due to previous injury

nope but I dont think he could go further than Novice dressage and 80/90 cm jumping even with a good rider (but feel free to prove me wrong!)

Details of any problems when being ridden

Nope.

Yes
