Fudge was rescued by us in 2010 (see pics), he only looked 18month old until the dentist came and we found out he was 31/2 it took us about year to get him back to a healthy looking horse. He is a very loving and stunning pony, he does not kick out or display any aggressive behaviour. He needs someone who can spend time with him every day and he had such a bad start we have struggled to find someone who can take him to his full potential, he will need some one who loves him and works at his pace.

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

Fudge will need a confident and calm owner, with patience and can go at his pace, he may be 9 years old but has been able to build trust with me and my partner and this takes time, due to the abuse he has experienced in his early years. Fudge has never had a crop used on him so a natural horse person would be more suitable to work with fudge.

  • Details of the tack used to ride the horse

We have used both English and American on fudge he seems more settled in the American style, he has a normal snaffle as he works well on command he can get nervous if anything is dangling around him if he has not been introduced to it first.

Relevant health or lameness issues

you are welcome to have a copy of fudges veterinary history but unfortunately the insurance company will not insure fudge's intestines even though his bloods and health are fine. Fudge has been healthy since he was rescued, he was under weight due to worm migration and neglect he was given treatment initially, we did keep on milk thistle for about 3 years just to make sure his liver had extra support. Fudge has never suffered for colic or any stomach issue

Veterinary examinations or treatment given in the past 12 months

Has not needed any

Please describe your horses behaviour in traffic

Fudge will need more experience and can be quite nervous, he is better with other horses being around him and a competent rider

Please describe your horses behaviour when hacking out alone and in company

Fudge unfortunately has not been out much due to lack of time we have for him this will be part of bringing him on.

Details of any individual behavioural traits which may influence the type of person best suited to take on the horse

Fudge can get nervous around strangers he can get to the point of having diarrhoea until he gets to know the person or object. He has in the past sat down if he gets too scared, this is why I say he needs someone to take him at his pace. We have took him in hand to a show and he was fine. we believe being around multiple horse's gives him confidence as he was left in a field with 15 horses for a few years so this is his safe haven. He can be a bugger to catch if he is in with mares very much a ladies man.

Details of the activities that the horse must not participate in due to previous injury

Fudge is pinched toed so jumping will affect him in later life.

Details of any problems when being ridden

He has bolted when got spooked, hence a confident rider so he can trust them to look after him.

Horse vaccinated annually for flu and tetanus

Yes

Need to be stabled at night?

Yes, but only in winter

Need to be put on restricted grazing to limit weight gain?

No

  • you will be allowed to ride the horse 4 days a week
  • during summer and winter complete this amount of work/duties: We would like someone to just have the time to spend with fudge with the hope of him being ridden, he will need time to trust the person and he can be showed in hand so there is plenty that he can do. If more days are required to spend with him this would only benefit fudge.
