Lysa is a very well schooled mare who is bright and interested . She is not getting enough stimulation with me as I really need a horse that is a 'happy hacker' . Lysa would do best with a confident and competent rider who can work through some of her quirky ways. There is nothing in her behaviour that a more confident rider than I am would be phased by.

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

Competent and confident rider who can work through Lysa 's occasional challenging behaviour. She has a stable but I really do believe that she is happiest living out and overwinters with add lib hay and limited hard feed.

Relevant health or lameness issues

Prior to me owning Lysa she came from an eventing home ( competing at BE100 level) and sustained some years ago a deep flexor tendon injury. This was actually sustained in the field and she had surgery in Newmarket and has been sound ever since. However, I have not jumped her on the advice of her previous owner. She needs a fly rug and mask in summer and while not serious sweet itch i do treat with Benzyl benzoate from Esivet.

Veterinary examinations or treatment given in the past 12 months

This winter she developed a hay related cough and has had an assessment from my vet who prescribed the standard treatment of ventipulum for this but is fine now.

Please describe your horses behaviour in traffic

Very good in nearly all situations

Please describe your horses behaviour when hacking out alone and in company

Generally good in company and usually ok when hacked alone but can put in a buck ( with me) but not with stronger riders than me.

Details of any individual behavioural traits which may influence the type of person best suited to take on the horse

As above, Lysa knows very well what to do but has put in a buck. This has led to me having a loss of confidence which is not Lysa's fault it's mine as with others who are stronger riders this does not happen. Before Lysa I had the same horse for nearly 20 years and realise that I need to go back to basics with my riding and it is not fair for Lysa that I need to do this. She is a very good companion to my other horse is partially sighted.

Details of the activities that the horse must not participate in due to previous injury

Jumping due to previous tendon injury.

Details of any problems when being ridden

On occasion she will put in a buck - she has never reared or been nappy with me.
