I would like her to be rehomed with her companion, Lady. See H4H3527769. Mabel is a very sweet natured and gentle, relaxed horse who is equally suited to plodding around and more strenuous hacking. She is easy to groom and used to dogs. This is a very reluctant rehoming due to a persistent back injury meaning I can no longer ride. She still has so much to offer and whilst she is happy just grazing I feel she would benefit from being ridden out again.

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

She is ideal for a beginner or more advanced rider with plenty of land for grazing. Stables are a bonus but not a necessity. We only bring her in during severe winter weather although given the choice she would prefer to stay outside.

Please describe your horses behaviour in traffic

She is very well behaved in traffic. I have to cross a busy main road to get to local bridalpaths and have never had any problems. She has been ridden on country lanes and is used to passing traffic. Would be spooked by fast traffic the same as any other sound horse.

Please describe your horses behaviour when hacking out alone and in company

She is extremely well behaved and polite. May be occasionally spooked by the odd traffic cone but otherwise is fine. She is happier in the company of other horses especially her companion Lady.

Details of any individual behavioural traits which may influence the type of person best suited to take on the horse

She really hates being clipped and will be spooked by the sound of clippers being turned on near her. She will not tolerate clipping even whilst being twitched so I would suggest she is sedated if clipped although I have never tried this.

Details of any problems when being ridden

She can occasionally be lazy and on the rare occasion may stumble. If she gets bored or doesn’t want to play ball she can become slightly silly but nothing that cannot be handled. I use a martingale to keep her engaged.
