He is easy to do in all ways. He needs very little to eat. Good manners have always been expected of him. He is also a good looking chap. He is quite happy to be stabled or on a dry yard all the time with a minimum amount of food. He doesn't make a fuss when the others are out. He is used to wearing a muzzle when turned out on grass. And he is fairly neat and tidy in his stable!

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

Although very easy to manage and polite Pluto needs an experienced home as he does have a 'pony' character. He particularly enjoys being on a big yard where there is plenty to watch during the day, but has also been quite content here at home with just 1 other horse coming and going. I expect he would make an excellent yard companion for a horse on box rest or minimal turnout. He is quite happy to wear his green guard muzzle which prevents him guzzling too much grass.

Relevant health or lameness issues

During the first 6 months of 2019 Pluto was on rehab after being treated at the Animal Health Trust for hind suspensory desmitis and sacro-iliac pain. He had neurectomy and fasciotomy surgery in early December and followed a strict rehab program in the hope that he would be able to return full work. Sadly as canter work started in June it became evident he didn't want to canter. He is managed to prevent laminitis. This is all under an insurance claim so there will be exclusions.

Veterinary examinations or treatment given in the past 12 months

Passed 5 stage PPE in June 2018 as suitable as all round family pony, but in need of losing weight. Put on strict diet. Assessed by Sue Dyson at Animal Health Trust 16/11/18 and found to have hind suspensory desmitis, sacroiliac pain and evidence of mild chronic laminitis. Neurectomy and fasciotomy surgery performed 26/11/18. Full reports available. Checked by vet 110319, confirmed sound enough to continue ongoing daily rehab exercise, trot work begun 010419. Successfully slimmed down to approx 400kgs.
