Shamrock is a great character and a rewarding ride. He is always willing to please, affectionate and friendly! Trained to Advanced Medium level over 10 years, he has fantastic flying changes and established lateral work. He schools at Elementary level now. Shamrock would love to do more hacking and has a powerful jump, so would enjoy training for fun over small fences and grids. This is a fantastic opportunity to ride a well-trained dressage schoolmaster and fun all-rounder at a yard with super facilities.

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

Our Perfect sharer is a competent rider with good hands, sensitive to the need of warming up/cooling down when schooling; ideally interested in having lessons. Shamrock would suit a young rider moving on from ponies, a mother, daughter share, someone returning to riding after a break or someone retired. Shamrock loves to jump for fun and would enjoy a rider to develop his jumping fitness. over small fences. He enjoys a good hack though if fresh, he can be a bit sharp, though just displaying fun cheekiness!

Please describe your horses behaviour in traffic

Shamrock is sensitive to noise and can be easily spooked by loud engine noise and larger vehicles, so he should be hacked on quiet lanes or off road. He should not be hacked on busy roads He has been hacked alone and in company without problems on quieter lanes. Shamrock is stabled in a yard with 40 acres of off road hacking. Small horse boxes can be hired from the yard and shared with other liveries to travel to Windsor Park and Berkshire Agricultural college for fantastic off road hacking trails.

Please describe your horses behaviour when hacking out alone and in company

Shamrock is a fun ride hacking alone or in company. He loves to hack out and would enjoy hacking more often. During the last 11 years Shamrock has mostly been training in an arena and has only been hacked out lightly down local lane and bridleways. When hacking he is lively and is more exuberant in company! He enjoys hacking out with other horses and is stronger when cantering in company in wide open spaces. If he is fresh he can sometimes be sharp on a hack though just displaying good natured cheekiness!

Details of any individual behavioural traits which may influence the type of person best suited to take on the horse

Shamrock is a well trained dressage horse and a sympathetic rider will get the best out of him. He benefits from lots of transitions to get him engaged during schooling. He performs at his best when he is warmed up well, so would benefit from a rider who has time to do a proper warm up before schooling. He would enjoy jumping for fun with a rider who can help build his jumping fitness over time. He is a gentleman in the stable, affectionate & friendly. He's a great character and would love more attention!

Details of the activities that the horse must not participate in due to previous injury

No previous injury. Due to age and lack of recent jumping experience, he would need to build up jumping fitness over time. So jump height should not exceed 2ft 6" and he will need schooling over small jumps and grids first. He is only insured to jump height of 100 cms. This could be amended over time, as with training he could jump up to 3 feet in the future. He would need jump training over 6 months to build his jumping muscles as he has not jumped regularly for over 4 years.

Details of any problems when being ridden

He has no vices. He can be spooky and react to loud traffic noise. So off-road hacking recommended. He is good to groom, tack up, shoe and box.
