Storm is a lovely mare that has worked hard in her past life in a riding school. She is in good health and has recently transitioned to being barefoot. She is good to trim and loads well. She rides out alone and with company. She is excellent in traffic. She is a non threatening mare and lives happily with either mares or geldings. She can be forward going and can be a little stubborn at times but this should not be a problem for an experienced rider.

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

Her new owner would be someone that is kind, ensures that she is well looked after, is turned out as much as possible, and is sympathetic to her being barefoot. While she is not a plod, she would suit an older knowledgeable rider looking for a quiet hacking pony. She is a non threatening mare and lives happily with either mares or geldings. N.B 10/10/18 The rider in the photo's is my instructor, a little bit too tall for Storm but she was being ridden to illustrate her capabilities

Relevant health or lameness issues

When Storm came to me her saddle had been pinching her and she was quite girthy as a consequence she was seen by a Osteopath. Her teeth have also been checked. She has been vaccinated and has been transitioned successfully from being shod to being completely barefoot. She does not have lameness issues and is currently in good health

Veterinary examinations or treatment given in the past 12 months

Had vaccinations and checked over, all good

Please describe your horses behaviour in traffic

Storm is excellent in traffic

Please describe your horses behaviour when hacking out alone and in company

Storm's behaviour is excellent when hacking out alone or in company. She can be nosey but not spooky. She can be forward going or very quiet. She can become overwhelmed in large open spaces,

Details of any individual behavioural traits which may influence the type of person best suited to take on the horse

Storm can sometimes be marish when in season. She is also a wonderful hack, she can be forward going and can be a little stubborn at times. She also likes a nice quiet hack. She is not suitable for a novice rider. She travels well and loads well. Catching her when she is in season can be a bit frustrating but an apple or treat will work. She is good to handle on the ground and ridden. She is an experienced mare and enjoys the security of a rider that is balanced and focused.

Details of the activities that the horse must not participate in due to previous injury

Storm will pop a pole but does not enjoy jumping and in my view would not be suitable for this in the future

Explanation whether this horse is simply a good doer or whether he is prone to laminitis

Good barefoot doer no history of laminitis

Details of any problems when being ridden

Storm has recently moved to a yard backing onto moor land. She was overwhelmed in such large open spaces and has been cheeky and fizzy. This has resulted in her bucking twice however she is not used to a environment where there are wild horses inc mares, foals and a stallion, cattle, sheep, people, cars, lorries, tractors and dogs all in such close proximity. Away from this environment she is very well behaved, sometimes needs a little reassurance but will usually walk past things without bothering.
