Tess is an absolute sweetheart. She is very laid back, not at all mareish. She is good to hack out, alone or in company and is great in traffic, not at all phased by farm vehicles. Easy to catch. Tess is quite forward going, especially in the school so I wouldn't describe her as a completely novice ride. Safe but fun. I have had her for 8 years and in that time she hasn't put a foot wrong. If I had my own land I would not be parting with her but sadly I can no longer afford the livery costs.

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

Ideally I would like Tess to go to a person, who has experience of owning a horse preferably with their own land and just wants to do light hacking a few times a week. Tess would be good for someone who needs to regain confidence. I would like Tess to have a 5* home with lots of love which is what she deserves and I would consider a long term loan arrangement. Tess lives out but I would like her to have access to shelter/a stable, especially in winter.

Relevant health or lameness issues

Tess developed sweet itch last year. This has been successfully managed with bug rugs. Tess was slightly lame earlier in the year and this was initially put down to thrush but the vet now thinks this was due to arthritic changes. She is on bute, half a sachet every other day and I also give her boswelia. I have gradually reduced the bute and am hoping to cut it out altogether and just keep her on the boswelia. She can at times appear stiff but soon loosens up with light work.

Veterinary examinations or treatment given in the past 12 months

Sweet itch, thrush and arthritic changes as described above. Treated with bug rugs, insecticidal lotions, thrush remedies and bute. Tess has suffered with mites in her feathers which have historically been treated with dectomax injections. However these didn't seem to be working so I took her feathers off and treated with anti mite shampoo and lotion and she hasn't had a problem since.
