Victor is a kind and gentle horse. He can be ridden absolutely anywhere on his own and in company. He has excellent stable manners, great to box, shoe (every 9 weeks) clip and handle. He always lets you catch him. He is ridden on beaches, country roads, busy roads, woodland and open fields. He loves a good gallop and comes back when asked. He can occasionally spook and gets his confidence from his rider. He will move past anything if asked and also stand at the side of a road with heavy vehicles passing

  • Most suitable home and loanee/owner/sharer

Victor requires a quiet yard/farm. He can not tolerate being out on his own and has lived out all his life with other horses, both in a herd, or with one other horse (mares and geldings) and more lately in his own adjoining paddock. He will come in from other horses to be ridden without problem. He just hates to be on his own when others come in. Lives in or out. Rider needs to be confident and experienced and Victor will give his all. Vic is very fit and forward going.

  • Details of the tack used to ride the horse

Victor has a Caprilli Bates changeable gullet saddle, which fits him like a glove. He has leather cavesson bridle. He rides in a Neue Schule lozenge bit. Very light handed to ride. Several rugs.

Relevant health or lameness issues

Victor headshakes in the summer but this is controlled with a net. He doesn't need it in the Winter months. Although having moved areas lately he did not do it last summer. Vet checked and there was no underlying problems. He needs regular tape worming (twice a year) as he is prone to tape worm infestation. Completely controlled with wormer. He has no health, behaviour or vice issues. Vic is super fit and has no health issues at all.

Veterinary examinations or treatment given in the past 12 months

None. Fit as a fiddle.

Please describe your horses behaviour in traffic

Exemplary. He will let anything go past him (heavy lorries, combine harvesters, motor bikes, cyclists, sports cars, prams, dogs and stand quietly at the side of the road. He will look at road works in front of him but with a little ask he will walk past anything in front of him quietly. If a herd of cows takes off behind a hedge he will carry on without a problem.

Please describe your horses behaviour when hacking out alone and in company

I have hacked out Victor alone for the last 13 years on open beaches, fields, country road, short spurts on busier roads, and woodlands. I have enjoyed gallops, cantering trotting and he has been totally safe. He does spook sometimes but listens when you give a little reassurance with the rein. He has been chased by dogs and we just turn round and face them. Super solid. He gets very strong if hunted. I have often ridden out with other girls at the yard and Vic will go in front or behind happily.

Details of any individual behavioural traits which may influence the type of person best suited to take on the horse

He is very fit and enjoys a good canter. He would suit a confident and fairly experienced rider. He is incredibly easy to do in all ways but needs a quiet yard where he is not left out alone or there is a lot of coming and going of horses. Other than that he will form a great bond with you. He is a loyal character who really gives his best but needs a rider who is fairly fit and capable. I have had him for 13 years and he really is the dream. Life has changed for me but he deserves the best forever home.
