George is a lovely, sweet natured Shire x cob 16.1 black gelding & only 11 years old. I rescued him 6 months ago, having been passed on to me as unsuitable for daily ridden/jumping workload. He was bought as a yearling & lived in Dorßet for 6 years with his companion donkey on a mixed farm. After being backed at age of 5 he Dorset owner said he was a pleasure to hack around the farm but due to lack of time for him generally his owner sadly decided to sell him so that he wouldn’t be ‘wasted’ doing nothing.
I am now looking for someone who has a retired donkey that he could live out with having been advised by the physio to do less with him & allow him to rest till spring/summer next year after which he can go back into light hacking.
Once settled will be really good. If stays here can help & assist if less confident or less experienced person. Weight limit only in place for rider 8 or 9 stone. Weight not relevant if doing groundwork liberty or agility training (or trick training). Was ridden in hackamore or Parelli halter & treeless saddle. Has 5 turnout rugs & fleece & stable rugs.
He had an old injury of a broken bone in his foot which he has completely recovered from. Unfortunately at some point he suffered a kick to the hind fetlock & this is what the pysio has recommended 6 months to a year off for. The environment he may go to is only suitable as a rest paddock if he has a permanent companion so if other horses come in daily it won't cause George to pace the fence lines. He generally settles if he has a horse next to him but this is not always convenient. Can be stabled at nights or bad weather but he also has previously had a habit of banging the door with his hoof, which he must be avoided (rubber lining on inside of door). Vaccinations are up to date. Legs need clipping as he gets sallanders & mallendars. He will tolerate in small doses. Rest of body clips fine for experienced person. If you loan keeping him at his current home all or any help will be provided with all stable management & training/handling.
- Home for life if leaves the farm. Lots of grass, hedged paddock with field shelter & a retired donkey as a best friend as he grew up with a donkey think this would make him happy! A lightweight rider for next year. Happy with children & pets.
Happy for potential person to speak with vet to get all/any information.
